Prep
Prep School, ages 7 – 13
The greatest gifts that we can give children are strong roots to give them stability and strength to enable them to reach their dreams and ambitions. At the core of all we do here at the Prep School of King’s College Riyadh is our mission to help children gain the confidence and skills that will enable them to move to the Senior School well on the way to becoming happy and fulfilled adults.
Uniquely to Riyadh, King’s College is the only school in the city in which all subjects are led by specialist teachers from Year 5 onwards. This approach enables children to fulfil their academic potential by ensuring that they are challenged each day by teachers who are educated to degree level, and beyond, in the discipline that they teach in school.
We would love to welcome you to King’s and let you experience how we go about our mission.
Years 3 – 4, ages 7 – 9
Expanding horizons
Whether your child is moving up from the Pre-Prep School or is new to King’s College, this will be an exciting time of expanding horizons. We will encourage your child to discover and explore all the inspiring opportunities on offer.
As in the Pre-Prep School, Year 3 pupils are taught English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities and Topic by a dedicated Class Teacher, with specialist teachers delivering a range of subjects including Arabic, Islamic Studies, Music, Physical Education and Swimming.
Lessons in the Lower Prep are personalised to ensure that the right levels of academic stretch and support are in place. We help the children to find out about themselves, too, and in working out how they learn best and rising to the challenge of trying new activities, they start to gain in confidence and courage.
Beyond the classroom, there is dedicated play time and a wealth of opportunities to join clubs and to take part in activities so that children can develop and explore their interests. Whether your child chooses just a few options or stays every day to take part with friends, he or she will be building useful life skills and platforms for future hobbies or careers.
Years 5 – 8, ages 9 – 13
From the start of the 2025-26 academic year, King’s College Riyadh will be delighted to welcome pupils to Year 7 as we continue our education journey towards the Senior School and the best universities.
Challenge and stimulation
The next stage of the King’s College Riyadh educational journey bears many of the hallmarks of classic adventure stories: your child will be challenged, stimulated and provided with chances to take on more significant leadership roles. Character and independence will be developed and valuable life skills learned.
Unlike some adventure stories, however, there is a safety net. Your child’s wellbeing matters greatly, which is why dedicated Form Tutors will get to know your child exceptionally well. In the Prep School, adventure and achievement go hand in hand with nurture and support.
Personalised learning
Uniquely to Riyadh, all your child’s lessons at King’s will be taught by subject specialist teachers from Year 5 upwards, enabling a greater depth of study than is on offer in other schools.
Our subject specialist approach allows children to engage with a broad curriculum, whilst unlocking talents and discovering interests for particular topics. It also gives them the chance to expand their perceived academic boundaries in preparation for the Senior School.
Personalised timetables and the broad curriculum continue, with all pupils having opportunities to represent the school in a range of regional and international competitions, ranging from the World Scholar’s Cup to a host of local sporting fixtures. A wider range of trips is included to stimulate learning and help your child become more culturally and morally aware.
Our extended school day allows your child to take advantage of a growing range of co-curricular activities, individual instrumental Music lessons, pupil leadership opportunities and clubs and activities.
Bridging the gap between Prep and Senior School
Whether your child is moving up from Year 4 or joining us from another school, the Prep School provides the best of childhood with a safe introduction to young adulthood, with pupils only joining our Senior School when they are ready to blossom as 13-year-olds.
Enrol your child at King’s College Riyadh
Children who join King’s Riyadh will leave as well-rounded young adults, having fulfilled their potential and having gained a place at the UK, US, or local university of their choice. They will have been prepared for life beyond school and will be able to contribute positively to society.
